VAT for digital publications scrapped

Find out why VAT for digital publications has been scrapped in the most recent Budget.

Books, newspapers and periodicals were zero rated for VAT but electronically supplied publications were standard rated. In the most recent Budget it was announced that from 1 December 2020 a zero rate of VAT would apply to e-publications. Due to the current pandemic this legislation has been brought forward and is now effective as of 1st May 2020.

Given the vast majority of people are confined to their homes for longer periods of time, this is a welcome decision.
