Changes to Self Assessment Late Payment Tax Penalty

HMRC has announced that self assessment customers will not be charged a the initial 5% late payment penalty if they pay their tax bill or make a time to pay arrangement by 1st April 2021.

The deadline to submit the tax return and pay any tax owed was 31st January 2021. Interest will continue to be charged from the due date to the actual date of payment.

Due to the impact of covid HMRC is granting taxpayers more time to pay or set up a payment plan.
